State Representative Bill Roemer of Richfield recently attended a groundbreaking event for a new animal hospital at the Akron Zoo. The facility, named the Tom and Shelley Koutnik Animal Hospital, will offer in-house care to a variety of animals and include a surgery suite, intensive care unit, and specialized spaces for birds, hoofstock, primates, and large carnivores.

Roemer commented on the significance of the project, stating, “The Akron Zoo is an important part of our community, and I am confident this hospital will serve as an incredible resource. I look forward to celebrating the grand opening!”

The hospital's completion is expected in 2026.
