The Ohio Senate has approved House Bill 81, a measure that pays tribute to fallen military personnel, first responders, and elected officials. This bill includes Senate Bill 152, which was introduced by State Senator Kristina Roegner of Hudson.

Senate Bill 152 designates a section of State Route 8 in Cuyahoga Falls as the “Cpl. Jack O. McClure Memorial Highway.” Corporal Jack O. McClure was born and raised in Cuyahoga Falls and joined the United States Army after graduating in 1942.

On June 6th, 1944, McClure was part of the 76th Infantry Division, 304th Regiment, “D Company,” taking part in the initial assault on Normandy during D-Day. After surviving this pivotal event, he and his unit carried out various military operations, advancing through hedgerows toward Luxembourg. He also participated in the Battle of the Bulge and other significant battles.

"Cpl. McClure is among the finest of Ohioans," said Senator Roegner. "It was truly an honor to meet him several years ago. Watching him cut the grass humbly in his own yard while in his 90s, one would never guess that there on the mower sat a true hero, who fought bravely for our country during World War II. When reflecting upon the life and service of Cpl. McClure, it is clear why he is part of the ‘greatest generation.’”

Corporal McClure's commendations include:

- Good Conduct Medal

- Meritorious Unit Badge

- American Campaign Medal

- European and African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal

- Bronze Star Medal
