In the wake of the unprovoked attack by Hamas terrorists on Israel, Senate Resolution 214, sponsored by State Senators Kristina Roegner and Andrew Brenner, solidifies the Senate's resolute support for Israel in the face of this unjustifiable and atrocious assault. The resolution underscores the imperative for Israel's self-defense, following a meticulously coordinated attack that resulted in over 1,200 casualties, including 22 U.S. citizens, and numerous Americans still missing. Senator Roegner stated, "Israel has a right and an obligation to defend itself, fighting for their very survival, and we condemn the actions of Hamas and their supporters."

The Ohio State Senate unanimously passed a resolution, known as Senate Resolution 214, to denounce the terrorist attacks on Israel that occurred on October 7, 2023. The resolution expresses sympathy for the civilians affected by this act of terrorism and emphasizes Ohio's strong connections to Israel. It reaffirms the unwavering support of the United States for Israel, an important ally, in their defense against this unjustifiable attack. The resolution also condemns the actions of Hamas and its allies, including Iran, for their attack on Israel and its people. Copies of this resolution will be sent to various authorities, including the U.S. President and Israeli Embassy, for official transmission, and to Ohio's news media for public awareness.

"The Ohio Senate unanimously approves Senate Resolution 214 today condemning the terror attacks against Israel and declaring support for the people of Israel," said the Ohio Senate GOP.

In a recent escalation of conflict, both Israel and Hamas have engaged in continuous attacks. Historically, these confrontations have seen a disproportionate number of Palestinian casualties, with more Palestinians killed than Israelis. The most recent conflict in 2021, triggered by an Israeli police raid on the Aqsa compound in Jerusalem, resulted in 349 Palestinian casualties, including children, compared to 11 Israeli deaths. The United Nations has meticulously verified the information and documented casualties in conflicts since 2008 in both Israel and the Palestinian territories.

On October 7, 2023, Israel evacuated civilians from 24 villages near the Gaza border, hinting at potential military operations in the Palestinian coastal territory. Simultaneously, Israeli fighter jets targeted Hamas military sites near the barrier separating Israel from Beit Hanoun in the Gaza Strip. This development followed Hamas's large-scale attack on Israel, marking one of the most significant assaults in five decades. The conflict had already led to a substantial loss of life in Israel and significant Palestinian casualties, underscoring the intensity of the situation. The Palestinian territory of Gaza has remained under an Israeli blockade since 2007, restricting imports and the movement of its inhabitants.
