We stand in solidarity with thousands across the country to #WearOrange on Gun Violence Awareness Day. In memory of Hadiya Pendleton, Pearly Young, Irma Garcia, Xavier Lopez, and countless others, we must work to prevent and reduce gun violence in #SummitCounty and beyond.
From Buffalo to Uvalde, from Tulsa to Akron, we are facing an unprecedented rise in gun violence and mass shootings. In 2020 alone, 19,384 people were killed by gun violence and 24,292 people died by suicide using a gun.
Our residents deserve to feel safe. Our students and teachers deserve to go to school and feel safe. Our congregations deserve to attend religious services and feel safe. Our neighbors deserve to go grocery shopping and feel safe. But local governments cannot solve this issue alone. We need action at the state and federal levels.
Tell your lawmakers in Columbus and Washington that #EnoughisEnough. Pass gun reform now.
