County of Summit 30th Anniversary of ICWUC's Workers' Memorial Day

100e

Today is the 30th anniversary of ICWUC's Workers' Memorial Day. Started in 1992, this event honors those who died, those who were injured, and those who lost a loved one at their workplace.

Through the hard work and determination of workers and unions across the United States, labor laws have been passed to prevent unsafe working conditions. But the COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the sacrifices made by workers to protect the health of themselves, their families, and their communities.

To the nurses who spent endless shifts caring for the sick, we thank you. To the truck drivers who drove miles and miles to deliver PPE, we thank you. To the pharmacy technicians who provided tests to the public while understaffed, we thank you. To the factory workers who dedicated their days and nights to supplying the country with medical equipment, we thank you.

And to those who were injured at work, to those who sadly did not return home at the end of their shift, we thank you and honor you. May this small gesture of gratitude spark remembrance and joy and may we recommit to ensuring the safety of our workers.
