This morning, President Biden nominated Clevelander Steven M. Dettelbach to serve as the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which plays a central role in the Department of Justice’s efforts to combat domestic extremism.
Mr. Dettelbach served from 2009 to 2016 as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, which includes Cleveland, Toledo and Akron, and is known for criminal prosecutions, hate crime cases and voting rights investigations.
"I’ve worked with Mr. Dettelbach on a number of occasions and I offer my full support for his appointment. I urge the Senate to confirm Mr. Dettelbach for this important position with due speed. I am confident he will serve the nation well, just as he has served our community for years. He has a proven track record of strong leadership and community engagement and will be just the type of director we need for the ATF." - Mayor Horrigan
