State Rep. Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) attended the August 12 Fairlawn City Council meeting to discuss funding for new connector trails supported in Substitute House Bill 2, in conjunction with State Senator Roegner, part of the state's two-year construction budget for capital projects across Ohio.

Four hundred thousand dollars will be used to construct trails and greenways throughout Fairlawn and Copley for the Rosemont Preserve. The Rosemont Preserve includes 62 acres of open space and 3,300 linear feet of the Schocalog Run main channel.

"Supporting the development of connector trails and implementing regional flood control initiatives will boost the local economy, foster job creation, lower commuter expenses, and offer cost-effective health benefits," said Roemer. "The completion of the trails will allow access to 60 restaurants within a 30-minute bike ride from residential areas. These pathways will allow community members to walk or ride to dinner and work while getting exercise."

"I want to thank Representative Roemer and Senator Roegner for their support in funding this trail connection through the City of Fairlawn," said Mayor Russell Sharnsky. "This section of the trail is a vital link in connecting the portion of the state-funded trail in Copley Township to the existing portion in Fairlawn. This connection will benefit Fairlawn residents and residents of surrounding communities by making the city a more walkable and likable community."

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed the legislation on June 28, supporting progress in the Fairlawn community.
