State Rep. Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) recently met with the Akron Zoo Leadership Team to discuss funding received from Substitute House Bill 2, in conjunction with State Senator Roegner, the state’s two-year construction budget for capital projects across Ohio.
Specifically, the Akron Zoo Veterinary Hospital will receive $2 million to develop a fully modernized veterinary hospital, providing routine and emergency care to resident animals.
“The veterinary hospital currently provides regular check-ups to over 2,000 animals,” said Roemer. “These funds will help the organization renovate their building so they can continue to provide quality care to their patients.”
“Providing the animals we all care so deeply about with exceptional medical care is one of our top priorities at the Akron Zoo,” said Doug Piekarz, President & CEO at the Akron Zoo. “The funds allow us to build the kind of medical facility that can best meet the needs of our animals as the zoo continues to grow. We are grateful to the Summit County delegation for their mentorship and continued support.”
The legislation was signed by Ohio Governor DeWine on June 28.
