The Ohio House of Representatives has approved the Strategic Community Investment Fund, which includes $350 million for various projects across the state. State Rep. Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) announced the news, highlighting that nearly $15 million of the fund will be directed towards Summit County and the surrounding communities.

Roemer expressed his satisfaction with the approved fund, stating, "This wide range of investments will encourage growth in all corners of Summit County and beyond. I'm proud to have advocated for these funds to help the people of Ohio."

The funding secured for Summit County includes $2.5 million for the expansion of the Akron-Canton Airport, aiming to boost the aviation industry in Ohio. Additionally, $2 million will be allocated to establish a new immersive space at the Akron Art Museum, fostering a creative and enjoyable environment.

Recognizing the importance of public safety, $1.5 million will go towards constructing a regional fire training complex in Cuyahoga Falls, offering space for 50 students. Furthermore, $1.75 million will support the Akron Zoo Veterinary Hospital, ensuring that animals receive the care they deserve.

Efforts to improve healthcare accessibility are also a priority, with $1.25 million dedicated to revitalizing land for CHC Addiction Services. The project aims to create a pharmacy, a health center, and centralized in and out-patient services, ultimately increasing accessibility to care.

The renovation of Barberton City Hall into the Barberton Justice Center will receive $1 million in funding. This transformation will enhance the infrastructure and facilities available to the local community.

In addition to these local investments, the Strategic Community Investment Fund also includes significant statewide capital investments. These include $600 million for the School Building Program Assistance Fund, $400 million for the Public Works Commission Local Public Infrastructure and State Capital Improvement Program, $397.6 million for higher education projects across the state, and $250 million for local jail construction.

These investments will be incorporated into the State Capital Budget bill, a two-year construction budget for capital projects. The aim is to provide essential funding for infrastructure improvements and foster economic growth throughout Ohio.

The Strategic Community Investment Fund represents a significant step towards supporting the development and prosperity of Summit County and the state of Ohio as a whole. With a focus on key areas such as transportation, arts and culture, public safety, healthcare, and education, these investments aim to create a positive and sustainable impact on the community.
