Earlier this afternoon, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced that the MAC will suspend sponsorship of men's soccer following the close of the 2022 NCAA Division I men's soccer championship.
In response to this decision, UA Director of Athletics Charles Guthrie stated:
"We understand the extremely difficult decision announced today by the Mid-American Conference to suspend sponsorship of men's soccer following the close of the 2022 NCAA Division I men's soccer championship. We commend the conference and its leadership for the tremendous support they've provided to UA Men's Soccer over the last several decades. We have enjoyed a long-standing tradition of success, produced world-class coaches and student-athletes, and forged historic rivalries that have delivered exceptional soccer to Zips fans. Coach Jared Embick and our team have our full support as they focus on winning the program's 16th MAC Tournament Championship on Saturday. As we look to the future, Zips Men's Soccer will remain one of the top NCAA Division I men's soccer programs in the country. We are in the process of finalizing a conference home for our men's soccer program in an elite conference and an announcement will be issued in the near future."
