University of Akron Daphne van Son leads Akron’s Scoring After 36-Holes of the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational

The Akron golf team carded a 623 (+47) team total after 36 holes of the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational hosted by Eastern Michigan at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Monday.

Sophomore Daphne van Son (Vlijmen, Netherlands) led the Zips' scoring efforts with a 4-over par 148 total. She fired rounds of 75 (+3) followed by a 73 (+1) to enter the final round tied at fourth overall. Junior Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio) currently ranks 17th overall and was second in scoring for Akron with 79-76 – 155 (+11) scores, while senior Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) finished third in scoring for Akron with an even-par second round mixed with an 85 (+13) for a 157 total. Freshman Avery Wright (Jackson, Ohio) and freshman Hridhika Vora (Mumbai, Maharashtra) rounded out the team scoring with 84-79 – 163 (+19) and 87-80 – 167 (+23), respectively. In addition, junior Abbi Fleiner (Reno, Nev.) also fired a 163 (+19) total on rounds of 82 and 81 to rank 48th overall.

Central Michigan leads the team scoring, registering a 302-295 - 597 (+21) which stands eight strokes above second place Bowling Green (605, +29). CMU's Ashley Goh posted a 3-under par 69-72 – 141 to lead the player's leaderboard.Tuesday's final 18-hole round is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start as the Zips will start on holes 9-12.
