The Akron Zips volleyball team fell 3-0 to the visiting Buffalo Bulls on Wednesday evening at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Akron fell by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-17The Zips were led by Faith Johnson with 14 kills and a .360 hitting percentage. Lauren Latka anchored the defense with 17 digs.
In the opening set, Akron posted a .423 hitting percentage led by Johnson's six put-aways. However, Buffalo hit at a .474 clip en route to a 25-22 triumph behind six kills from Cali Assaley. In the second set, the Zips floored the first three points, and Buffalo tallied 10 of the next 13 points to take a 16-10 advantage. The Bulls closed out the second set 25-16 and followed with a 25-17 third set win to claim the match.
The Bulls posted a .376 team hitting percentage and had three players with double-digit kills in Cali Assaley (12), Stacia Gollogly (11) and Abby Leigh (10).
Akron is scheduled to be back in action at The JAR on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, against Western Michigan. Friday's match is slated for a 6 p.m. start followed by 2022 Homecoming match on Saturday at Noon. Fans can follow the action on ESPN+ or live stats via GoZips.com.
