In the Mid-American Conference opener for both schools, the University of Akron women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Buffalo (7-1-0, 1-0-0 MAC) on Thursday, Sept. 22.
The Zips (1-3-2, 0-1-0 MAC) held the high-powered Bulls' offense off the scoreboard in the opening stanza before Buffalo cracked the scoring column with what proved to be the game-winning tally in the 62nd minute (61:13).
"I was really proud of our first-half effort," Akron head coach Jen Simonetti commented. "They did everything we asked of them and gave a great organized effort with good chances. We need to continue working on our fitness, while improving competitiveness within the program. We have a lot of games still to play!"
Sophomore Caitlin Bruni (Canal Fulton, Ohio) led the Zips' offensive attack garnering a team-high two shots, both on goal, while sophomores Lacey Bernick (Huntingdon, Pa.), Quinn Casey (Powell, Ohio) and Calli Swisher (Alliance, Ohio) posted a shot apiece for Akron.
Sophomore GK Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) registered five saves in goal for the Zips.
