Community Talk Back: Telling the Stories of African Americans in Akron & Summit County

In honor of Black History Month, the John Brown Institute Task Force will be hosting its upcoming Community Talk Back virtually on Saturday, February, 19th at 12:30 p.m.
Rev. Dr. David Nelson, New Hope Baptist Church and Society board director, will moderate the session featuring the following panelists:
- Lester Carney, 1960 200 Meter Olympic Silver Medalist, reliving his monumental experience.
- Reverend Ronald Fowler discussing his work at the Arlington Church of God and a special congregant, Dorothy O. Jackson.
- Mike Williams sharing about the life and legacy of his father, The Honorable Judge James R. Williams.
- Dr. Sylvester Small telling his work as the first African American Akron Public Schools superintendent.
- Towanda Mullins, chair of the Sojourner Truth Statue project, alerting the community for how they can become involved in carrying out Truth's legacy
- Ruby Nash Garnett reminiscing her singing career with Ruby and the Romantics.
- Dave Lieberth, Society director emeritus and local historian, will provide a history overview.
